SCSO arrest Lawrenceville man over weekend

A Lawrenceville man was arrested in Stephens County this weekend.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, on May 2, sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a reckless driver near the intersection of Broad Street and Currahee Street.

Upon arrival, deputies located a Honda Accord that was stopped at the traffic light located at the intersection of Broad MLK Blvd and West Currahee Street.

Shirley said deputies could see the driver was asleep at the wheel.

Sheriff’s deputies approached the vehicle and immediately smelled the strong odor of burning marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle.

After multiple attempts of knocking on the window, the driver woke up.

Deputies were able to assist in removing the driver out of the vehicle.

It was during this contact that deputies realized the driver had difficulty standing on his own and displayed extremely slow and slurred speech. He was placed under arrest for driving under the Influence.

Deputies then conducted a search of the driver and the vehicle. During this search deputies located a loaded 9mm pistol along with a quantity of methamphetamine and marijuana.

Further investigation by deputies revealed that the driver was a convicted felon. The gun and narcotics were collected, processed, and placed into evidence.

The driver, 34-year-old Henry Jonathan Saravia was arrested and charged with:

Possession of Methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule I Controlled substance, possession of firearm during the commission of a Felony, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of marijuana with Intent to distribute, driving while license suspended and DUI Drugs/Alcohol.
