Former Georgia State Patrol Post 52 Commander Scott Andrews has announced his intention to run for Franklin County Sheriff.

In a press release sent last week to WLHR News, Andrews said if elected in 2024 he will pledge his honesty, integrity, work ethic, and 24-hour availability to serve the citizens of Franklin County in a personal and meaningful manner.

If he wins the seat in November 2024, Andrews would bring 35 years of law enforcement experience to the job.

In 2019 Andrews retired from the Georgia State Patrol.

“My employment was rewarding and I learned so much and value the law enforcement experience that I gained, from the many training opportunities that I received to my leadership role as a state trooper and supervisor,” Andrews said.

During his time with the State Patrol, Andrews served as a Trooper, Supervisor, and Commander of three GSP Posts.

Before his assignment as the Commander of the GSP Post 52, Andrews also served as the Commander of the GSP Posts in Washington, GA, and in Athens.

He has also served as a board member and past president of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia and currently serves on the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council.

Currently, Andrews serves as the Director of Safety/Security for the Franklin County Charter School System; a position he’s held since 2021.

“Since assuming this position we have made many improvements for the safety of our schools,” Andrews pointed out. “Weapons detectors are now in both our middle and high schools. We have installed protective window film in every school in our county to better protect our students and staff. Numerous safety and active shooter training and drills have also been implemented for our staff.”

Additionally, Andrews is a cattle farmer in Franklin County and is currently the president of the local Cattlemen’s Association and the Regional vice president of the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association.
