SCMS Rebels earn spot in NEGIAA Conference Championship game

The Stephens County Middle School Rebels football team defeated Hart County last Wednesday to earn a spot in the NEGIAA Conference Championship game to be played on Thursday at Rabun County.

The Rebels defeated the Bullpups, 38 to 18, at The Reservation.

Stephens County had over 225 yards rushing and 115 yards passing, led by Javin Gordon’s 136 yards on the ground.

That gives Gordon over 1000 yards rushing for the season.

He also had an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Nathan Lewallen had 75 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns for the Rebels.

Stephens County’s Aaron Scott had an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown, and Devin Cobb was also a leader on defense.

Rabun County made it to the championship game by defeated Habersham, 14 to 2.

Kickoff Thursday at Rabun County will be 5:30.

This is the second consecutive year the Rebels have made the conference championship game.

Parents of the Rebels encourage everyone going to the game to wear white to show support of the Rebels.
