SCMO, SCHS rescue 30 dogs from Stephens County property

The Stephens County Marshal’s Office along with the Stephens County Humane Shelter rescued more than 30 dogs and several cats Wednesday from a Stephens County home at 21 Ventura Drive.

According to Stephens County Marshal Rick Wise, his office was notified by a concerned citizen reporting there were animals on the property not being cared for.

The property owner, Alton Emory, is currently in the hospital; however, Emory’s sister also contacted the Marshal’s Office asking for them to remove the animals.

Wednesday morning, the Marshal’s Office and several employees from the Humane Shelter came out to the property to begin rounding up the dogs.

The dogs were loose on the property making the process that much more challenging for the shelter employees.

Stephens County Marshal Tony Addison says he appreciates the Humane Shelter’s willingness to assist them in removing the animals from the property.

Stephens County Humane Shelter Executive Director Jeff Roberts tells WNEG News that the shelter is currently full, so in order to create space for these rescued animals, the shelter will be shipping out some of their dogs that have been at the shelter for some time to outside organizations.

Roberts says once the rescued animals go through the intake process they will be placed up for adoption.

At this time, the cost to adopt an adult dog from the Stephens County Humane Shelter is $100, and the cost to adopt a puppy is $125.

He says you can browse online to see which animals are currently available for adoption at tschs.org.

WNEG News will continue to follow this story and bring you updates as they become available.
