SCHS’s Freshmen Fest receives positive response from students, parents, staff

The administration, faculty and staff at Stephens County High School have seen an increase in student engagement following the inaugural Freshmen Fest.

That’s according to Assistant Principal and Curriculum Director Jessica Simmons.

Simmons says that since implementing the annual Freshmen Fest last year, she’s received a positive response from parents, students, and staff.

She explained that the even welcomes rising freshmen during their 8th grade year of middle school, to explore the pathways, courses, clubs and extracurricular activities the school offers. It is also a chance for students and parents to ask questions about graduating requirements, HOPE scholarship, to name a few.

Last week was the 2nd annual Freshmen Fest at the high school. There, CTAE upper classman presented brief introductions to their respective pathways and clubs to the up-and-coming freshmen.

WNEG News spoke with SCHS Senior Hannah Murphy, who represented the cosmetology pathway.

Murphy says she would have benefited greatly by attending the Freshmen Fest as an upcoming 9th grader.

“I’m representing the cosmetology program, and we’re teaching the younger students about how they can get their cosmetology license while in high school. I think this really benefits the students,” Murphy said. “I wish they (SCHS) had this when I started, I would have benefitted a lot.”

Assistant Principal and CTAE Director Teresa Phillips says the Freshmen Fest helps promote the CTAE programs and pathways.
