SCHS’s Aidan Butts named Region 8-AAA Player of the Year

Stephens County High School football player Aidan Butts has been named the Region 8-AAA Player of the Year.  

Butts, a senior, played both defensive end and tight end in helping the Indians to their second consecutive region title and a 10 & 2 final record.  The All-Region Team was announced Sunday, and Stephens County placed a total of 15 players on the 1st and 2nd teams, along with two Honorable Mentions.

In addition to Butts, two other Indians received special recognition—Junior running back Javin Gordon was named the Offensive Player of the Year, and Senior defensive back Jasec Smith was named Defensive Player of the Year. 

Named to the first team offense were quarterback Tripp Underwood, wide receiver Brock Tankersley, and lineman Cooper Dean.  Named second team offense were wide receiver Devin Cobb and lineman Wyatt Hammons. 

Named to the first team defense were lineman Solomon Dupree, linebackers Dawson Childs and Santana Smith, and defensive backs Da’Von Swinton and Jonah Swinton.  Luke Waters was named first team punter.

Named to the second team offense were wide receiver Devin Cobb and lineman Wyatt Hammons.  Named to the second team defense was lineman Jakob Lunsford. 

Indian players named honorable mentions were offensive linemen Dylan Hunt and linebacker Garrett Addison.

Franklin County had offensive lineman Jordan Fordham named to second team offense, along with five Honorable Mentions—Nava Ware, Riley Moon, Will Carey, Brady Simms, and Colt Irvin.
