Stephens County sweeps Habersham Central in non-region basketball play.
Both the Lady Indians and the Indian boys bounced back from region losses to St. Pius on Friday to pick up wins in Mt. Airy over Habersham.
In the girls’ game, Stephens County used a 25-point third quarter to overcome a fast start by the Lady Raiders on the way to a 51-42 win over the Lady Raiders.
Anaiah Wilson led three Lady Indians in double figures with 14 points. Tynajiah “Nay Nay” Eades scored 13 points and Tykia Thompson added 12.
McKenzie McDuffie led the Lady Raiders, who are still searching for their first win on the season, with 19 points and Heather Vaughn scored 12.
In the boys’ game, the Indians could not shake the Raiders, but held on for a 60-57 win. The two teams traded the lead in the second half, but the Indians built a lead that was too much for Habersham to overcome.

Jim Barnette and Dontavious Bailey each had 17 points to lead the Raiders, who fell to 2-6 on the season.

For the season, the Lady Indians are now 5-6 overall and 0-1 in the region, while the Indian boys are 7-1 overall and 1-0 in the region.
