SCHS Sweeps N. Oconee in Home Varsity Hoops

Stephens County picks up a sweep in varsity basketball.

Friday night, the Indians and Lady Indians both came away with home wins over North Oconee in Region 8-AAAA basketball at the Currahee Arena in Toccoa.

In the girls’ game, Tynajiah Eades was fouled with 0.8 seconds left and hit one free throw to give the Lady Indians a 41-40 win over the Lady Titans.

Tykia Thompson led Stephens County with 10 points, and Anaiah Wilson and Breanna Taylor each scored eight.

Shekya Wilson scored 13 points for North Oconee.

Moving to the boys’ game, North Oconee led 26-13 early in the second quarter, but the Indians outscored the Titans 74-28 the rest of the way on the way to an 87-52 win.

Ty Nails led four Indians in double figures with 21 points. De’Undra Singleton had 19 points, Montavis Thornton scored 11 points, and Chaz Bridges chipped in with 10.

Adam Weynand led North Oconee with 14 points and Wes Wilson scored 11.

The Indian boys are now 14-5 overall and the Lady Indians are 9-9 overall. Both teams are 2-2 in region play.

Stephens County is on the road Tuesday at Jefferson. The girls will tip off at 6 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow. Airtime on WNEG is 5:45 p.m.
