SCHS Student Athlete Allie Huff named Employee of the Year

A Stephens County High School Work-Based Learning Student has been named Employee of the Year.

Allie Huff has been an employee with Brother John’s Subs for two years.

According to Brother John’s Subs owner Hallie Edenfield, Huff has demonstrated a positive attitude and is always willing to learn new tasks.

Edenfield says Employee of the Year is a peer-nominated accolade and is indicative of Huff’s outstanding work ethic.

“I’ll tell you, last year, 2020, was quite a year with the pandemic. We had to change a lot of things, with the way we run the business, and Allie stepped in and was phenomenal. Obviously, the employees noticed it as well. Allie pitched in and she did a great job. No matter what I asked her to do, she stepped up and has learned so many new tasks. She’s worked with me now for two years, since she was 16, her first job. I can’t say enough about her. She’s takes the initiative, she’s trustworthy. She’s great,” Edenfield said.

Huff says she feels honored to be named the Employee of the Year.

She adds that one of the most important skills she’s learned is time management.

“When I first started out, I wasn’t really playing softball. When it was my senior year, I had to learn to work and play softball. I worked a couple hours a day here and played softball in the afternoons. I also have dual-enrollment classes, so I have to manage those,” Huff says.

Stephens County High School Work-based Learning Director Pam Hills says Huff is a great student and not only has a strong work-ethic in the classroom but also at her job.

“Allie is one of our rock stars in work-based learning. She’s been in the program for two years, and I’ve watched her grow up so much in that time. She has learned to juggle school, superior athletics, college, and work. For her to balance those so well, to be one of our best softball players and to be Employee of the Year tells me that Allie is taking great advantage of all the resources available to her. She is always one of the first to turn her assignments in, I never have to follow her to get anything, and her employer is always raving about her. She may be Employee of the Year for Brother John’s but she is also one of our most outstanding work-based learning students this year,” Hill said.

Brother John’s Subs has participated with the work-based learning program at Stephens County High School for more than 20 years.

Brother John’s Subs is located at 27 Stephen Circle, in Toccoa.
