SCHS Splits on Senior Night

Stephens County splits its varsity basketball games on Senior Night.

The Indians and Lady Indians hosted Jefferson on Friday night in Toccoa, with the Indian boys winning, 76-61, but the Lady Indians falling to Jefferson, 69-47.

In the boys’ game, Stephens County pulled away from Jefferson late, outscoring the Dragons 22-11 in the fourth quarter.

Montavis Thornton led all scorers with 24 points, while De’Undra Singleton added 17 points and Ty Nails and Chaz Bridges each scored 12 points.

The Dragons, without Jasper Gibson, who scored 41 points against the Indians last month, were led by Daniel Parker, who scored 15 points and Jacob Radaker, who scored 14 points.

Moving to the girls’ game, the Lady Indians could not recover from a 14-0 run by the Lady Dragons to start the game as Jefferson stayed in front for the win.

Tykia Thompson led the Lady Indians with 15 points and Tynajiah “Nay Nay” Eades had nine points.

Jazmin Allen scored 20 for Jefferson and McKenzie Tyner added 10.

The Lady Indians finish the regular season 11-14 and 3-7 in region play, while the Indian boys finish the regular season 18-7 overall and 6-4 in the region.

Next up is the region tournament, where both teams will play North Oconee in Jefferson on Tuesday. The Lady Indians will tip off at 4 p.m. and the Indian boys will tip off at 8:30 p.m. Both games will be on WNEG and wnegradio.com.
