SCHS Splits Close Games At Rabun Co.

The Stephens County Lady Indians hang on late and win a back-and-forth thriller in Tiger.

Friday night, the Lady Indians beat Rabun County 39-37 in non-region play.

Rabun County’s Savanna Scott, who led all scorers with 21 points, missed a shot at the buzzer that would have sent the game into overtime.

Kentasia Trimier and Emily Mote each had eight points to lead the Lady Indians, while Mya Cleveland added seven.

While the Rabun County girls missed a buzzer-beater to send it to overtime, the Rabun boys hit a three to tie the game at the buzzer and pulled away in overtime to beat the Stephens County Indian boys 84-78.

Stephens County trailed by 14 at one point in the third quarter, before coming back to take a three-point lead with 4.6 seconds to go after Nunu Walker hit two free throws.

But Bryce Dillard hit a three-pointer as time expired to force the deciding overtime, one of 13 3-pointers the Wildcats made.

Chris Jones led the Indians with 18 points, while Quentin Montgomery scored 15 and Walker added 11 for Stephens County.

Harry Oliver had 22 points to lead Rabun, including a 60-footer at the end of the first half. Dillard scored 19 for Rabun, while Austin DiNofrio had 12 points and Bailey Fisher chipped in 11 points.

With the win, the Lady Indians move to 6-8 on the season.

Meanwhile, the Indian boys drop to 5-9 on the year with the loss.

Stephens County’s basketball teams are back home Saturday to take on Hart County in non-region play at the Currahee Arena.

Tip-off for the girls’ game is 6 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow.
