SCHS pick up awards at GADC banquet

Stephens County High School picked up a couple of awards at The Georgia Dugout Club Awards Banquet held Saturday in Marietta.

Lady Indians Softball pitcher, Emma Whitfield, was named Class AAAA Player of the Year, along with Hannah George of Northside-Columbus.

Lady Indians Head Softball Coach, Katie-Jo Gentry, was named Class AAAA Coach of the year, along with Brandon Jenkins of Northside-Columbus.

The Stephens County Lady Indians were seeded third in the region going into the state tournament back in October, but they finished as the state runner-up, losing in the championship game to Northside-Columbus.

This was Coach Katie-Jo Gentry’s first season as Head Coach of the Lady Indians, and they finished with an overall record of 24 and 10.

Throughout the season, Stephens County rode the arm of Junior Pitcher Emma Whitfield.

With the exception of a few innings, Whitfield pitched in all 7 games at the Elite Eight double elimination state tournament in Columbus amassing huge strikeout totals and limiting hits in leading the Lady Indians to 5 wins, including 3 shut-outs.
