SCHS, Madison Co. Split in Basketball

The Stephens County Indian boys’ basketball team picks up a second straight region win.

Friday night, the Indians went on a 28-0 run in the third and fourth quarters to pull away from Madison County and win 87-55 at home in Toccoa.

Ty Nails scored 28 points to lead all scorers, while Montavis Thornton added 19 points.

Colby Smith and Martavian Cooper each scored nine points to lead Madison County, who falls to 8-14 overall and 1-7 in the region.

With the win, the Indian boys are now 16-7 overall and 4-4 in region play.

Moving to the girls’ game, Madison County remained undefeated in region play, jumping out early on the way to a 73-48 win over the Stephens County Lady Indians.

Madison County outscored the Lady Indians 28-5 in the first quarter, but Stephens County played the Lady Red Raiders almost even in the final three quarters.

Tykia Thompson led the Lady Indians with 13 points, and Breanna Taylor scored 12.

Madison County’s Jordan Bailey led all scorers with 27 points, Kayla McPherson scored 20 points, and Adryanna Maxwell added 13 for Madison, who is 8-0 in the region and 17-5 overall.

The Lady Indians are 11-12 overall and 3-5 in Region 8-AAAA.

Stephens County is back on the road Tuesday night at North Oconee. The girls’ game tips off at 6 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow. Air time on WNEG and wnegradio.com is 5:45 p.m.
