SCHS Lady Indians Sweep

The Stephens County Lady Indians Softball team played outstanding defense, delivered timely hits, received great pitching from Emma Whitfield, and swept Chestatee two games to none last night in the first round of the AAAA State Playoffs in Gainesville.

In game one, Stephens County shutout Chestatee 5-0. Emma Whitfield pitched a complete game to get the win, allowing only three hits in seven innings and striking out nine.

The Lady Indians scored two runs in the top of the first when Jasmine Lowery doubled, scored on Kayley Sellers triple, and Sellers scored on Ashton Ayers single.

The Lady Indians added two more runs in the 4th inning when Kat Fuller doubled, and she and Bailey Dobbs both scored on two Chestatee errors. The final run came in the 6th inning when Dobbs singled, and scored on Lowery’s double.

Sellers and Ashe both had three hits apiece to lead the Lady Indians offense.

In game two, Stephens County scored all three runs in the third inning and held on for a 3-2 victory.

In the third inning, Fuller led the inning with a single, Dobbs doubled to knock in Fuller, and after a Lowery single, Sellers doubled scoring Dobbs and Lowery..

Chestatee scored their only runs of the night in the 6th inning when they cut the Stephens County lead to 3-2, but that would end the scoring.

Whitfield was outstanding on the mound again, pitching a complete game, allowing four hits and striking out 10.

It was a good night for other teams from Region-8 also advanced. Jefferson swept White County, Madison County swept Blessed Trinity, and Oconee County split with Marist and will play the deciding game today.

Stephens County will now travel to face Chapel Hill next week in a best of three series.
