SCHS Lady Indians place 9th at State Golf Tourney

The Stephens County Lady Indians golf team wrapped-up the 2019 season on Monday and Tuesday at the Class AAAA State Tournament at Maple Ridge Golf Club in Columbus, GA.

Lady Indians Coach Brannon Hulsey had set a goal for the team to finish in the top 10, and that goal was met as the team finished 9th in the state.

The Lady Indians were led by a strong performance from Senior Abby Akin, who fired 85 on Monday (which included 2 birdies on the first nine holes) and 83 on Tuesday (which included a score of 40 on the back nine after making par on 6 of 9 holes).

Katie Grace Randall shot 99 & 92, followed by Gracey Scott 107 & 111 and Emma Hopper 121 & 109.

Woodward Academy won the state tournament.

The Lady Indians’ 9th place finish was just ahead of fellow Region 8-AAAA competitor St. Pius by 14 strokes.

The team earned a spot in the State Tournament by placing 3rd in the Area Tournament at the end of April.

After three consecutive trips to the State Tournament, Senior Abby Akin will now move on to the collegiate level with the Brenau University Golden Tigers.
