SCHS Lady Indians’ Golf Team advances to State Championship Tourney

The Stephens County High School boys and girls golf teams played in the Class AAAA Area-2 tournament on Monday, April 29, at Lane Creek Golf Club in Bishop, GA.

Area 2 is comprised of Region 8 and Region 3.  To qualify for an automatic spot in the state tournament, a team had to finish in the top 3.

Teams consist of 4 players each and the best 3 scores are added together to get the team score.

The Lady Indians finished in third place and will move on to the Class AAAA State Championship Tournament on May 20-21 at Maple Ridge Golf Club in Columbus, GA.

The Lady Indians shot a team score of 289, led by senior Abby Akin who shot a 94, Katie Grace Randall shot a 95, Gracie Scott shot 100, and Mallory Colwell shot 104.

North Oconee won the area tournament with a score of 238.  St. Pius was just ahead of the Lady Indians in 2nd place with a team score of 280.

Madison County with 297 and Oconee County with 367 rounded out the top 5.

This is the third straight year that the Lady Indians have advanced to the state tournament, which is thought to be a school record.

This will be senior Abby Akin’s third time to the state tournament as well.

The Stephens County Indian boys placed 5th at area and did not qualify for the state tournament.
