SCHS Indian’s Baseball team defeat Habersham Central, Cherokee Bluff

The Stephens County Indians baseball team won its first two games of the season with convincing wins Friday and Saturday.

Friday night, the Indians batted around in the fourth inning ,scored five runs and led the rest of the way for  a 10-7 win over the Habersham Central Raiders. Ben Stowe and Patrick Murray led the Indians with three RBI’s each, Murray adding a solo home run in the sixth inning. Nick Randall went four and a third innings on the mound to pick up the win. Garrett Burgess and Patrick Murray finished out the game.

Konnor Burrell took the loss for the Raiders.  Burrell knocked in two runs at the plate as did Hunter Tatum. With the loss, Habersham Central fell to 1-4 on the season.

Saturday, the Indians faced seven Cherokee Bluff pitchers, batted around twice and scored an impressive 11-5 win over the Bears.  Junior pitcher Grant Babbit went four and a third innings on the mound for the Indians.  Ayden Garmen finished up in relief.

Patrick Murray and Garrett Burgess had two RBI’s each Saturday while Cruz Mullinix, Craig Thurmond and Jacob Pruitt each drove in a run.

With those two wins, Stephens County is now 2-4 on the season. The Indians are at home again this evening against Rabun County and then on the road Tuesday at Elbert County. Both games start at 5:30PM with air time on WNEG starting at 5:20PM.
