SCHS Indians Athletics Updates

The Stephens County High School tennis teams won 8 of 10 matches Tuesday in a home contest against Monroe Area.

The Lady Indians won by a match score of 4-1 by winning 2 of 3 singles matches and taking both doubles matches.  Nyleigh Hutto won at #2 singles; Maddie McGee won at #3 singles; Kara Jones & Ellen Aakerman Broddvall won at #1 doubles; and Laura Sanders & Emerson Lecroy won at #2 doubles.  The Lady Indians have an overall record of 12-3 and are 6-3 in region play.

The Indians also won by a match score of 4-1 against Monroe Area.  The Indian boys won 2 singles contests and also won both doubles matches.  Rusty Spencer won at #1 singles; Jaron Jones won at #2 singles; Gavin Wilkinson & Clayton Jones won at #1 doubles; and Elijah Geoghagan & Kerry Wood won at #2 doubles. The Indians are 8-7 and are 4-5 in region play.

Prior to the home match, the Stephens County tennis coaches recognized 4 senior players: Gavin Wilkinson, Laura Sanders, Ellen Aakerman Broddvall, and Emerson Lecroy.

Stephens County’s final regular season match is at Monroe Area Monday, March 25.

 

In other sports news, due to expected rain Friday, the Baseball double-header at Oconee County has been moved to Thursday, with first game first pitch at 5 p.m. and airtime on WNEG radio at 4:45 p.m. 

 

Also, Stephens County High School Track and Field coach Gordon Thigpen advised WNEG Sports yesterday that the Jefferson Invitational Track Meet scheduled at Jefferson Stadium this Friday has been canceled due to forecasted inclement weather.
