SCHS Competes in Electrathon Race

SCHS electric race car student drivers Gavin Wilt in car #425 and Luke Duncan in car #900 were ready to lead their team to victory during the recent “Race on the Mountain” at Rabun County Middle School in Clayton.

Stephens County High School’s automotive and robotic students showcased their talents at the Rabun County “Race on the Mountain” Electrathon Race on Saturday, April 13.

Both electric race cars competing from Stephens County High School (SCHS) completed the entire race without experiencing any breakdowns. Although no official scores were tallied, the SCHS race team distinguished itself with two of the three remaining cars to complete the race without any technical issues or lapses.

SCHS Instructors Brian Thomason and Jeff Lovegrove expressed their satisfaction with the results, noting that the students’ performance is a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Lovegrove said the event provided invaluable learning opportunities for students, and expressed gratitude to the community, Principal Jessica Simmons, CTAE Director Rod Pipkin, and Superintendent Dr. Connie Franklin for their support.

Thomason added, “The success of our Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) department in this competition reflects the collaborative efforts of our drafting and robotic students for their design contributions, as well as our welding and automotive students for their meticulous assembly and welding work on the frames. Special commendation goes to our student drivers, Luke Duncan and Gavin Wilt, who are both juniors at SCHS and whose dedication and effort have been exemplary throughout the school year.”

Lovegrove added appreciation for local firms ASI Partitions and Patterson Pump for their support of the program.

Stephens County High School’s Electrathon team’s next competition will be the “May Mayhem” at Franklin County Middle School on Saturday, May 4. Drivers will start their engines around noon.
