SCHS Coed Wrestlers Sign for Scholarships

Emily Harper and Rakiyah Young, female wrestlers on the Stephens County High School coed wrestling team held signing ceremonies last week.  This marks the first time a female wrestler has signed a college scholarship for wrestling at Stephens County. 

Emily Harper is the daughter of Linda and Ron Mederios.  She wrestled for Stephens County for two years, placed 5th in state in 2023, was the area champ this season with a record of 33 & 6.  Emily will be attending Brewton-Parker College in Mt. Vernon, Georgia, where she will major in education and wants to teach and coach in high school after college.

She said she never expected to wrestle in college before she joined the Indian wrestling team:

Rakiyah Young is the daughter of Jupiter Young.  She has wrestled for two years for Stephens County.  She went to the state tournament in2023 and placed 3rd in the area tournament this season.  Rakiyah will be attending Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina

Once she visited the campus of Allen University, she decided that was where she wanted to go:

Rakiyah plans to major in business finance and might serve in the military after college.
