SCHS Basketball Splits With Eastside

The Stephens County Lady Indians finally got off to a good start, scoring 16 points in the first quarter and pulling away to defeat the Lady Eagles of Eastside 43-23 Tuesday night at the Currahee Arena.

Audresha Merritt led Stephens County with 12 points and Emily Mote had 10 points.

Jymara Smith and DeJanue Saintilus each had five points for Eastside.

Stephens County’s girls are now 11-9 on the season and 2-1 in region play.

Eastside’s girls are 9-9 and 1-3 in the region.

Moving to the boys’ game, Stephens County could not keep up with Eastside and dropped a 67-50 decision.

Tavoris Davis led the Indians in scoring with 20 points and Josh Slate added 14.

Twelve different players scored for Eastside, led by Anthony Henderson with 15 points.  Daniel Oduah contributed 13 points.

Stephens County is 3-17 for the year and 0-3 in region play.

Stephens County’s basketball teams head on the road Friday or a region contest with Lumpkin County in Dahlonega.
