SCHS Basketball Coach Hughes Resigns

Stephens County High School has announced a change coming within the Indian Basketball program.

Jeremy Hughes, who guided the Stephens County High basketball team to a Region 8 AAA runner-up finish in 2023 and two State play-off berths in 2023 and 2024, has resigned after five years at the helm of the Indians.

According to a press release issued late yesterday by the Stephens County High School Principal Jessica Simmons, Hughes decided to step away from coaching boys basketball at Stephens County High School to pursue other interests, and will “take some time deciding what the next chapter will be for him and his family.”

Athletic Director Chuck King stated, “We are very appreciative and grateful for all of the hard work, dedication, and effort put into the building of this Indians program. Coach Hughes has been a very loyal and dedicated member of our Stephens County coaching staff and I am forever grateful for his work. We are better because of Jeremy Hughes.”

Hughes added “I would like to thank all of the players who gave everything they had to building this Indian Basketball program. I would like to thank all of the coaches, teachers and administrators who have helped and supported me along the way.  I wish Stephens County nothing but the best and I look forward to what the next chapter brings!”

Simmons added “During his tenure, Coach Hughes has demonstrated unwavering dedication, leadership, and commitment to our student athletes’ growth and development both on and off the court.  We extend our deepest gratitude to Coach Hughes for his contributions to SCHS and the basketball program.  We wish him all the best in his future.”
