Schools Nutrition Bookkeeper Admits Taking Funds

A Stephens County School System employee has admitted to taking funds from the school nutrition activity account.

The now former employee, Andrea Sheuring, admitted to taking the funds when questioned by school officials on Friday.

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey tells WNEG News how the missing funds were discovered. “Our School System Finance Director brought to my attention that some protocols were not being followed in a small food nutrition activity account. Upon meeting with the Nutrition Director to discuss the protocols she made notice that the transactions in question had not been authorized by her. Myself, the Assistant Superintendent, and the Finance Director met with the Nutrition bookkeeper (Sheuring) and she admitted to taking some of the funds. In doing an internal audit the amount is $6,125.”

Dorsey says it was at that time the matter was turned over to law enforcement. “We have turned over all of the information to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Department and their investigators, and we appreciate their fast response to this, and at this time it is under the guide of law enforcement. We feel that it is important that everyone know and that we have full transparency in our school system.”

The Stephens County School System release says there are no indicators of any questionable activities concerning the system’s general account, as this former employee did not have access to those funds. The school nutrition activity account has been closed.
