School District Responds to DA’s Comments About Gangs and Crime

In yesterday’s news cycle, WNEG News reported on statements made by Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney George Christian regarding the high rate of violent and gang crimes in Toccoa/Stephens County, as compared to the other two counties in the District.

Christian, speaking to Stephens County Commissioners during his budget request presentation to Board of Commissioners during one of the Board’s budget retreat meetings earlier this week, referenced the school system in his comments. 

Shortly after airing Christian’s comments, WNEG News was contacted by school officials expressing concern over the accuracy of the comments and the perception of the High School and of Stephens County students, that the comments  they presented. 

Yesterday afternoon, Stephens County School Superintendent Dr. Connie Franklin issued the following statement regarding Christian’s comments.
