SCBOE rolls back millage rate to 16.8

The Stephens County Board of Education set the millage rate for Stephens County on Tuesday.

According to Stephens County School Superintendent Dr. Daniel Oldham, for 2020 property taxes the millage rate will be set at 16.67 mills a reduction from last year’s millage rate of 16.8.

He says this is due in part to property values increasing allowing the school system to generate the same amount of revenue as last year but with a lower rate.

Chairman Rod Moore stressed that the Board of Education is not increasing property taxes for 2020.

“Let’s say that again, there’s no tax increase from the Board of Education,” he said.

The board approved the new millage rate unanimously.
