SCBC will resume in-person meetings on Tuesday

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners will resume in-person meetings during this week’s scheduled board meeting.

As WNEG News reported earlier, the Stephens County Board of Commissioners will be meeting on Tuesday, March 23, inside the Grand Jury Room at the Stephens County Government Building.

Tuesday’s meeting will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m.

The decision to resume in-person meetings was recommended by Chairperson Michelle Ivester.

During the first meeting in March, Ivester initially suggested the Board meet in the grand jury room for the next three months.

Commissioner Dean Scarborough asked why move to a smaller space when the Historic Courthouse is available.

Ivester cited several reasons for the change in venue, with the poor shape of the courthouse being the most important.

County Administrator Phyllis Ayers mirrored Ivester’s response about the Historic Courthouse being in bad shape.

Scarborough asked for the Courthouse to be worked on in the next few weeks so that the Commission could meet there again beginning in April.

Again, the Stephens County Board of Commissioners will meet in the Stephens County Government Building’s Grand Jury Room on Tuesday.

Following that meeting the Board will begin meeting again in the Historic Courthouse.
