SCBC will meet by teleconference for today’s scheduled meeting

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners will meet this afternoon for its regular scheduled meeting and work session.

The meeting will be conducted through teleconference, as it has been since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Up for consideration is a motion to authorize Chairman Dennis Bell to sign an agreement for the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act Airport Assistance between Georgia Department of Transportation and Toccoa-Stephens County Airport Authority.

The Board will also consider a motion to authorize Bell to sign a quit claim deed and resolution for 0.145 acres of right-of-way on State Route 17 Alternate Toccoa Falls Road to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The Commission will also hold three land use public hearings during today’s meeting.

The first is a rezoning request from Carlan Curtis for the property at 7439 W. Currahee Street, in Toccoa.

The property is currently zoned as agriculture intensive; however, the proposed action would be to rezone 3.33 acres to agriculture residential.

The second hearing is a conditional use request from Petitioner Denise Lynn Elliott on behalf of property owner Charles Elliot, for the property located at 149 Pressley Road.

The property is currently zoned as residential single family with the proposed action to allow a hair salon at the residence.

The third hearing is for a conditional use request from Petitioner Glen S. Pounds on behalf of property owners Karen Ragsdale, Joyce Brady, Barbara Leverett, for the property 2800 Hwy 17 Alt.

The property is currently zoned as commercial general, the proposed request is a conditional use to have a display lot for retail automotive sales.
