SCBC to resume in-person meetings on March 23

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners have decided to resume in-person meetings.

During the recent Commission meeting, Chairperson Michelle Ivester recommended the Board consider the change.

Initially she recommended the board meet in the grand jury room at the Stephens County Government Building.

Commissioner Dean Scarborough asked why move to a smaller space when the Historic Courthouse is available.

Ivester said the change in venue was necessary due to the Historic Courthouse being in bad shape due to the amount of foot traffic brought out from the past election.

County Administrator Phyllis Ayers agreed with Ivester’s assessment.

Scarborough asked for the Courthouse to be worked on in the next few weeks so that the Commission could meet there again beginning in April.

The next Stephens County Board of Commissioners meeting is scheduled for March 23, at 5:30 p.m. at the Stephens County Government Building’s Grand Jury Room.

Following that meeting the Board will begin meeting again in the Historic Courthouse.
