SCBC to discuss library expansion, tonight

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners will meet tonight for its regular scheduled meeting.

The commission will consider a motion to deed four lots to the Toccoa-Stephens County Library for an expansion.

WNEG News reported on Feb. 12, that the library had plans to expand.

And at that time, Library Manager Emily McConnell was adamant that in the next five to seven years Stephens County could very well see a larger space for the library.

When WNEG News last spoke with McConnell, a building committee had been established under her leadership.

According to McConnell, the added space is planned to house a new full-size computer lab and space for additional central library staff.

If the commission approves the motion to deed lots 6, 7, 8 and 5 to the library, it would be conditioned that the library expansion will take place.

However, if the project does not occur or the project is abandoned, then the County would retain ownership of the lots.

The SCBC meeting is slated to begin tonight, at 5:30 p.m., in the Stephens County Historical Courthouse.

The public is encouraged to attend.

WNEG News will continue to provide coverage on the library’s expansion as more information is released.
