The Commission will hold a public hearing for the first reading of an amended ordinance.

The ordinance to be amended is Chapter 10, Article II. Sec. 10-52, which currently reads: The animal control department shall be authorized to remove or cause to have removed to a safe location any animal that appears to be abused or suffering undue pain from abuse or neglect, as may be necessary to prevent further suffering. The owner or possessor of the animal shall be charged with cruelty to animals.

The amendment adds: If a dog/animal is tied or tethered it must have adequate shelter and bedding in cold weather and fresh food and water daily.

Following the public hearing, the Commission will consider motions including one that will authorize Chairperson Michelle Ivester to sign resolution referencing state paid county reimbursed employees for the District Attorney’s Office for the Mountain Judicial Circuit.

Another motion to be considered is to grant a variance request to James Deal, at 1612 West Currahee Street to live in a camper and continue with the septic and electrical hookups currently in place.

The commission will also consider a motion to enter into a planned service agreement with Johnson Controls for the JCI Metasys controls and mechanical/hvac system in the Government Building.

Again, the Stephens County Board of Commissioners will meet this morning at 8:30 a.m. inside the Stephens County Historic Courthouse.
