SCBC table discussion to replace road maintenance agreement with Martin

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners voted to table an agreement with the City of Martin during its meeting on Tuesday.

According to Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers, the Commission needed to consider a motion to replace the road maintenance agreement with the City of Martin.

The original agreement was put in place July 1, 1995.

Commissioner Dean Scarborough asked why the agreement doesn’t include a price increase since it’s been over 25 years since the agreement was signed.

Ayers explained that the Martin Town Council members didn’t want a price increase.

Scarborough said that the increase doesn’t have to be substantial; but should include inflation because of the increase in the costs of materials and labor.

Ayers said she would bring it back to the Martin Town Council with the proposed price increase.

Vice Chair Dennis Bell agreed with Scarborough and recommended the Commission table its discussion until both parties agree on a price.

A motion to table the agreement was made by Commissioner Michelle Ivester with Scarborough seconding the motion.

The motion was approved unanimously.
