SCBC schedules two public hearings for property tax increase

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners will meet on Tuesday, July 12, for its regular scheduled meeting.

The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. inside the Stephens County Historic Courthouse.

The meeting will begin with a public hearing for the first hearing of a proposed property tax increase.

As WNEG News previously reported, the Fiscal Year 2023 Budget was approved, and included that the millage rate would remain the same as 2022, at 14.76 mills; however, because of tax digest increasing, this would be considered a tax increase.

The Board of Commissioners will also consider the purchase of a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox for the Stephens County Airport Authority to be split between the Stephens County Board of Commissioners, City of Toccoa, and the Airport Authority in the amount of $6,205.67.

Additionally, the Stephens County Board of Commissioners will hold a Special Called Meeting on Tuesday, beginning at 6:00 p.m. inside the Stephens County Historic Courthouse, for the second public hearing for the purpose of the proposed property tax increase.

Again, the Regular Schedule meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, and the special called meeting will start at 6:00 p.m. both inside the Stephens County Historic Courthouse.

The public is invited to attend both meetings.
