SCBC rescind award for 2 vehicles

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners met last night and rescinded an award to Mike Jones Ford for the purchase of two 2019 Ford Police Interceptor Sedans after the Ford Motor Company announced they would no longer manufacture this model of sedan.

During the meeting, County Administrator Phyllis Ayers told the board about the recent announcement from the car manufacturer.

According to a statement issued by the Ford Motor Company, its decision comes in response to the declining popularity of passenger cars in favor of utility vehicles and trucks; however, the car manufacturer maintains that they will continue producing its Police Responder Hybrid sedan, which comes with a higher price tag of $30,035 MSRP for the base model.

But, it was decided that Stephens County would not be reducing its carbon footprint anytime soon, after the board voted and approved a motion awarding Ed Murdock Superstore the bid for the purchase of two 2019 Dodge Chargers.

The cost per unit is $23,512 just slightly more than the cost of the Ford sedans.

Both vehicles will be paid for out of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) VI account, not to exceed $47,024.

Commissioner Debbie Whitlock made a motion to award the bid to Ed Murdock Superstore for the purchase of two 2019 Dodge Chargers.

Commissioner Stanley London seconded Whitlock’s motion.

The motion passed unanimously.
