SCBC move forward with ordinance on occupation tax

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners voted and approved to move forward with a motion to adopt an ordinance regarding occupation tax rate schedule.

The occupation tax rate schedule would take the gross income of businesses and create a fee schedule on a tier system.

For a business that brings in $0 to $200,000 annually would pay $100 for their occupation tax.

Commissioner Dean Scarborough explained to the commission how the first tier would work.

Commissioner Michelle Ivester was concerned about pop-up shops, and yard sales.

There was one yard in particular that Ivester thought it should be considered a business because of how frequent the resident holds a sale.

The commissioners, county financial director and attorney decided to look into the matter more closely to see what options were available for them.

In other business the commission, voted and approved alcohol renewals for Calico Generals Store; Mill Creek Gathering; Royal Food Store No. 28; Royal Food Store No. 32; Japnoor Fast Food, Inc.; Shell Mountain Mart.
