SCBC Declare Emergency in Stephens County

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners approved a motion authorizing Chairman James Addison sign a Declaration of Emergency in Stephens County during its meeting on Tuesday.

County Administrator Phyllis Ayers says the resolution will allow the Commission to have dial-in meetings in case the commissioners test positive for COVID-19.

County Attorney Brian Ranck explained that the current State of Emergency under Governor Brian Kemp is an Economic State of Emergency; therefore, the Commission would need to declare a local Emergency.

Commissioner Dean Scarborough said Tuesday’s meeting would have been a good opportunity to hold the meeting by teleconference if they had the declaration in place.

Scarborough made a motion approving the Declaration of Emergency in Stephens County with Commissioner Michelle Ivester seconding the motion.

The motion was approved 3-0 with Commissioner Debbie Whitlock and Vice-Chair Dennis Bell being absent.
