SCBC approves Reapportionment Resolution

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution concerning reapportionment during its recent meeting.

Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers explained that the Georgia General Assembly is getting ready to meet in a special session to discuss reapportionment or redistricting in Georgia following the 2020 Census.

Redistricting is the process of drawing new congressional and state legislative district boundaries.

The resolution the county approved was similar to the one the Toccoa City Commission approved last month.

County Commissioner Debbie Whitlock asked about the resolution.

Chairperson Michelle Ivester, Commissioner Dean Scarborough and Vice Chair James Addison attempted to explain the resolution and reapportionment.

Ivester continued by saying that State Senator Bo Hatchet and State Representative Chris Erwin are confident Stephens County won’t be divided.

Scarborough made a motion approving the resolution with Addison seconding the motion.

The motion was approved unanimously.
