SCBC approve purchase of 2 new vehicles for the SCSO

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office will be receiving two 2019 Ford Police Interceptor Sedans.

During the recent Stephens County Board of Commissioners meeting, the board voted and approved a motion to award the bid to Mike Jones Ford for the two vehicles.

The vehicles cost $21,823.68 per unit and will be purchased with funds from the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) VI.

At the meeting, Vice Chair Dean Scarborough said he was happy do business with a local dealership.

“I’m just glad were able to get them locally,” Scarborough said.

Commissioner Dennis Bell asked if the SPLOST VI account had enough funds to cover the cost.

“My only question is, do we have enough funds in that account to pay for them,” Bell asked?

Stephens County Attorney Brian Ranck said that if there are not enough funds in the SPLOST VI account then the county would be able to borrow additional funds from a separate account and replace the funds once they county receives funds from SPLOST VI activity.

After addressing Bell’s concern, Scarborough made a motion to award the bid to Mike Jones Ford for the purchase of two Police Interceptor Sedans. Commissioner Stanley London seconded the motion.

The motion passed unanimously, 5-0.
