SCBC approve millage rate for county, school system

Stephens County residents will see an unchanged millage rate in Fiscal Year 2020.

During the Stephens County Board of Commissioners meeting, Tuesday, the board approved a Tax Levy Resolution, setting the millage rate at 14.91 mills.

According to County Administrator Phyllis Ayers the goal of the commissioners is to leave the tax rate unchanged.

She said the budget was based on this proposed millage rate.

“This is the county governing authority, the county millage rate and it is the same as last year,” Ayers said. “And it is what the budget is based on.”

A motion was made by Commissioner Michelle Ivester to approve the unchanged millage rate.

Commissioner James Addison seconded the motion.

In other business, the commission approved a Tax Levy Resolution of 16.8 mills as recommended by the Stephens County Board of Education.

The collection of the 16.8 mills will fund the costs to maintain and operate the county’s public schools.

Both motions were unanimously approved.
