SCBC amend Buildings and Building Regulations Ordinance

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday for its regular scheduled meeting; during which, the board approved a motion to amend section 18 Buildings and Building Regulations.

The amendment would chance article III, section 18.71 (a)(2) where a building permit is not required for less than 150 square feet.

The change will now require building permits for structures less than 150 square feet.

County Administrator Phyllis Ayers presented the item for discussion and explained that County Clerk Beth Rider, who issues building permits, has been charging for permits regardless if the building was less than 150 square feet.

Rider explained that charging everyone a fee for a building permit, regardless of the square footage, was the only way to keep up with the permits.

Commissioner Dennis Bell made a motion approving the amendment with Vice Chair James Addison seconding the motion.

Commissioner Debbie Whitlock opposed the motion.

Despite Whitlock’s opposition, the motion passed 4-1.
