Saturday wreck knocks out power in Toccoa

A recent accident involving two vehicles and a broken power pole, leaves one injured and power-outages for some residents in Toccoa.

According to the Georgia State Patrol Post 7, in Toccoa, on Saturday, March 18, Erinn Merritt, 17, of Toccoa, attempted a left turn off of State Route 17 Alternate, onto Skyline Drive, in a 1994 Ford F-150.

As Merritt made the turn, she failed to yield to Sherrod Roberson, 29, of Toccoa, who was traveling northbound on SR 17 Alternate, in a 2017 Dodge Challenger.

When the two vehicles collided Merritt’s F-150 spun around and struck a power pole at the intersection.

Roberson’s vehicle also ran off the roadway after the impact, striking a pedestrian cross walk sign and the power pole guide wire, which resulted in the power pole that had been struck by Merritt to break.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene, at the requests of each owner.

Merritt was issued a citation for failure to yield.
