Salvation Army of Toccoa seeks volunteer groups

The Salvation Army of Toccoa is seeking volunteer groups to ring bells and raise funds for the community.

The money raised at each Red Kettle goes to give back to the community through financial assistance, food, Christmas assistance, and more.

There are several volunteer options, individuals or groups can choose from says Lt. Amy Birks of the Salvation Army of Toccoa.

One option is ringing at the kettle for a day, your group could cover one kettle location for a full shift beginning 10 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m.

This alone, would save the Salvation Army the cost of having to pay someone to stand there and would mean all the funds you raised would be going back out into the community through the programs of the Salvation Army.

Another option requires a group effort, where you and members of your group ring at a kettle for a day at more than one location.

Groups can choose to cover multiple locations and compete to see which team raises the most money.

A final option, would be for your group to sponsor a kettle for $100 or agree to match the funds that are raised.

Public contributions to Salvation Army kettles enable the organization to continue its year-round efforts at helping those who would otherwise be forgotten.

Birks encourages the community to pool together and create groups to help give back to the community.
