Run Over Violence Color Run Slated for Sunday

The annual Run Over Violence sponsored by the Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence comes up this weekend.

Scheculed for Sunday, November 4, the run helps raise funds for services offered to victims of domestic violence in the Franklin, Hart and Stephens county area.

Teresa Neese is President of the Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence and Chair of this year’s 5K and Color Run.  Neese said the run always takes place on a Sunday afternoon.

“It’s our 18th Annual Run Over Violence. We do offer a one-mile Color Run and a 5K run/walk. It’s always on a Sunday afternoon. The event starts at 2:30 p.m. with the Color Run. The 5K run/walk starts at 3 p.m.,” said Neece.

According to Neese, the run will once again begin at Hartwell Marina, but the course has changed.

“This is the second year we’ve been at the Hartwell Marina, but it’s an all new route. We’ll go up through North Forest Avenue, go through a beautiful subdivision and come back. We start and finish at the marina so you have the beautiful scenery of the lake both times,” said Neese.

One highlight of the Run Over Violence is the Color Run in which participants are showered with colored powder, made of food-grade corn starch, at stations along the run.

Neese says many wear white to get the best effect possible from the colors, but being splashed with color is voluntary.

“A lot of participants enjoy the color run. You do not have to get splashed in color. It’s just dyed corn starch. Due to allergic reactions or whatever, if you want to be splashed with color let the people know shaking the color, and if not, that’s fine, you don’t get any on you. It helps decorate your outfit for the day and show that you did participate in a color run,” said Neese.

The fee for both events is $25 before the day of the race and $30 on the day of the race, which includes a T-shirt.

Registration forms are available the Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence Facebook page, as well as we are on EventBrite.com.

All proceeds for the event go toward services for victims of domestic violence.
