Royston Police releases name of suspect involved in shooting last week

Royston Police have released the name of the suspect involved in a shooting last week that left one man dead.

Royston Police Chief Donnie Boleman said they have arrested 42-year-old Makuia Dondre Williams of Royston.

Boleman said it happened just after midnight Wednesday morning when two male roommates got into an argument in their Spring St. Townhome.

He said officers were dispatched to the Spring St. townhomes in reference to shots fired.  When they arrived, the suspect flagged them down.

When they went inside, officers rendered aid but the victim, now identified as 60-year-old Eugene Riley, did not make it and died at the scene.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested to assist with the scene and the investigation.

Agents arrived and assisted Royston officers with processing the scene and conducting interviews.

Williams has been charged with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a forcible felony, and cruelty to a child in the 3rd degree.

He was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center in Carnesville.

Boleman said the Royston Police Department would like to thank agents with the GBI, deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office as well as deputies with the Hart County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance at the scene and the investigation.
