Representative Collins Helps Pass Immigration Legislation

Congressman Doug Collins spoke at the House’s immigration legislation last week and helped pass the  No Sanctuary for Criminals Act and Kate’s Law, both regarding immigration.

The No Sanctuary for Criminals Act gives Immigration and Customs Enforcement the authority to take custody of criminal aliens from local law enforcement. Jurisdictions that choose not to cooperate risk losing federal grant funding under this legislation.

Collins addressed the House, saying that Washington should play a role in enforcing immigration laws.

“As we look at this, Washington is not saying it knows best, but in this issue, it is our domain, it’s where we’re supposed to be,” said Collins. “We believe simply here that enforcing the law is what we’re needing here.”

The other bill, Kate’s Law, increases the penalties for criminal aliens who re-enter the United States after being deported. Kate’s Law is named after Kate Steinle, who was killed by an illegal alien in 2015.
