Rep. Gasaway still has time to request recount in District 28 election

The District 28 statehouse seat in Georgia still isn’t resolved, despite a court-ordered repeat of last May’s primary election.

As we reported earlier, the official results show District 28 Rep. Dan Gasaway losing his seat by just two votes; and now he’s waiting for state certification, due tomorrow, before deciding whether to request a recount.

Because of the close finish in House District 28, it entitles Gasaway to a recount if he requests one.

Results were certified Friday, December 7, by Banks, Habersham and Stephens counties and show Republican challenger Chris Erwin beating Gasaway by two votes out of 7,040 cast.

A judge ordered the December 4, do-over because some voters, in Habersham County, were assigned to the wrong district in May.

Georgia law allows recounts of elections decided by 1 percent or less of the total vote.

WNEG News will continue to provide coverage as additional information is released regarding the District 28 election outcome.
