Registration begins for 2nd Annual HOPE For a Drug Free Stephens Turkey Trot 5K

HOPE for a Drug Free Stephens has announced its 2nd annual Turkey Trot 5K run/walk/trot which will take place in downtown Toccoa on November 7.

HOPE for a Drug Free Stephens County is organizing the Turkey Trot in hopes of raising awareness in the community about the dangers associated with heroin and opioid painkillers and reducing the number of opioid-related deaths in Stephens County.

At its core, the HOPE for a Drug Free Stephens initiative is about awareness and making Stephens County healthier, safer, stronger, and drug free.

Hope for a Drug Free Stephens Co-Chair Kathy Whitmire says the 5K will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, November 7.

She says AAA Race Services will make all race times official.

She says all proceeds from the 5K will go towards bringing awareness to Opioid Use Disorder in the community and to the prevention of overdose deaths here in Stephens County.

There is no cost to participate in the Turkey Trot; however, Whitmire says donations will be accepted.

She adds that 20 vouchers for free turkeys will also be given away to participants dressed in turkey attire.
