Red Cross Offers Help in Finding Loved Ones in Hurricane Harvey Disaster

As rescue efforts continue in Houston, many who have loved ones there are trying to find out if they are safe.

If you have a relative or loved ones stranded in Houston, the American Red Cross has a resource for them and you to use online.

Georgia Red Cross Communications Manager Davina Mims-Puckett said they have a Web page designed to help family and friends reconnect.

“The Red Cross has a fabulous Web page through our Connecting Families and Loved Ones site, and you can go there and mark that you’re safe so that other folks can know that,” she said. “It’s a great tool for families and we are definitely connecting people.”

To get word to your loved one, you can go to Redcross.org, then click on Get Help and then click on Disaster Relief and Recovery Services.

Even with the ability to connect to family and friends in Houston via your smartphone, cell phone and Internet service in Houston hasn’t always been available because of the storm and the flooding.

That’s why Mims-Puckett says the Red Cross page is a valuable tool to let loved ones know they’re OK.

“With there being no power in a lot of these situations, it is sometimes difficult to get those messages up, but we encourage people to go to our Web site and we have a Safe and Well link where you can learn more,” she said.

Again, to search for your loved one in Houston, you can go to Redcross.org, then click on Get Help and then click on Disaster Relief and Recovery Services.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on, “Search for a Family Member.”
