Reckless Driver Arrested

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley tells WNEG that last Friday at approximately 3:06 P.M. a deputy with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched by 911 to the area of Rock Creek Road and Shady Lane in regarding a reckless driver.

As the deputy approached Shady Lane he encountered a white Chevrolet Malibu turning right onto Rock Creek Road. The driver of the Malibu almost struck the deputies patrol car when they passed each other.

The deputy turned around, caught up to the vehicle and activated his emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle refused stop and continued South on Rock Creek Road in a reckless manner.

During this time the driver struck mail boxes and fences on multiple properties. The pursuit continued on Rock Creek Road, turning left onto Acre Estates. The driver continued driving recklessly, striking fences and mailboxes, and eventually crashing near a residence on Acre Estates.

The driver then attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after a short foot chase by the deputy.

The driver was identified as William Kyle Griffin, age 31 of Toccoa.

Griffin was arrested and taken to the Stephens County Jail where he is charged with: Failure to maintain lane, driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol, defective tires, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, too fast for conditions, driving on the wrong side of an undivided street, failure to obey stop sign, obstructing or hindering law enforcement officers, reckless driving, and driving without a seat belt.
