Rebels Fall in Championship

The Stephens County Middle School Rebels football team came up a little short in trying to complete an undefeated season Wednesday night. The Rebels lost to Rabun County, 20 to 16, in the Northeast Georgia Independent Athletic Association championship game played at the Reservation.

Rabun County scored first on 13 yard touchdown run with 5 1/2 minutes left in the first quarter. Stephens County got on the board with just 28 seconds left in the second quarter on a Ben Stowe 1 yard touchdown run. TJ Everette ran in the 2-point conversion and the Rebels had an 8-7 halftime lead.

Rabun County scored two touchdown runs in the third quarter, one from 4 yards and another from 83 yards to take a 20 to 8 lead.

With three minutes left in the third quarter the Rebels pulled within a touchdown when Cameron Lacy hit Cory Ritchie with a 55 yard pass to the 1 yard line, and TJ Everette finished off the drive with a short touchdown run. Lacy added the 2 point conversion to close within 20-16, but Stephens County could not get any closer in a scoreless 4th quarter.

The Rebels end their season as the conference runner-up and a record of 7 & 1.
