Raiders Complete Season Sweep of Indians

Habersham Central combined strong pitching, timely hitting, and 4 Stephens County errors to complete a season sweep of the Indians 6-3 Monday night at the Reservation.

After two scoreless innings the Raiders struck in the 3rd. With two outs and two men on, Colby Jones doubled to deep right center to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead.

The Indians came back in the bottom of the inning. Dawson Sorrells led off the inning with a single, followed by a Cole Snyder RBI double to pull the Indians within one. After two outs, Isaiah Martin reached on an error that scored Snyder to tie the score at 2.

Habersham Central came back with 3 more runs in the 5th inning on 3 hits, 2 walks, and a couple of Indian errors.

The Raiders scored an insurance run in the 6th inning with the help of another Indian error.

Stephens County pulled one run closer in the bottom of the 7th inning when Sorrells doubled and scored on a wild pitch.

University of Miami commitment Alex McFarlane picked up the win on the mound for the Raiders allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and striking out 6. Logan Bogue pitched the last 3 innings for the Raiders allowing 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 6.

Gabe White picked up the loss for the Indians allowing 4 earned runs on 4 hits, striking out 6 and walking 3 in 4 2/3 innings to fall to 2-1. Josh Henshaw gave up a run in 2 1/3 innings of work.

Stephens County falls to 7-3-1 on the season. Habersham Central improves to 11-3.

Stephens County will be back at home on Tuesday night when the face last year’s AAAA state champion, and the current AAA top ranked team- the Jefferson Dragons. Airtime on WNEG is set for 5:45 P.M. with first pitch at 5:55 P.M. on WNEG.
